Norstar Development of Buffalo, New York and Savarino Companies joined together to redevelop an aging public housing project in the City of Buffalo.
The first phase, which began in March of 2008 and ended in April of 2009, entailed the construction of 59 new living units and an administrative building on vacant land in and around the existing project. Phase II will involve the demolition of the existing projects and the construction of a tower containing 100 units of senior apartments. Phase III will add an additional 80 living units and 20 market rate single family homes.
It is anticipated that the entire project will be complete by the end of 2011. The total cost is $40,000,000.
Foit-Albert Associates of Buffalo, New York provided the design and engineering for all phases. Savarino Construction Corporation was the general contractor. Financing for the project came from several private and public sources. A portion of the capital for the project came from the sale of Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits issued through the New York State Department of Housing and Community Renewal.
